Review for Let Me Love You

This was my first “older” heroine and “younger” hero romance and BOY OH BOY does it set the bar high for my next one! Jessica Jayne gives you a glimpse into a relationship that exceeds my expectations for what love can look like, no matter your age. Ren and Stacey were wonderful, and their backstories were realistic and thought out, all through the end. Jessica Jayne’s narrative was a delight to read and I look forward to her next adventure through romance!

Set The City On Fire by Sophia Peony (Review)

38795697.jpgPlease don’t die. Please don’t die. Please don’t die.
Leo heard the frantic whisper over and over in his head. She begged him to stay alive, and he couldn’t very well disappoint her by dying.

Leonardo Costa
Someone tried to kill Leo, heir to the Costa family. Call it luck, call it a miracle, or simply say it wasn’t his time, but Leo survived thanks to Freya. Those who tried to kill him were dealt with, swiftly and painfully, but there was someone else controlling the rats, someone close to the family.
Leo had an enemy to eliminate, but when fate throws Freya back in his path, he knew he wasn’t letting go. She saved his life, and it was his duty to protect her.

Freya Santos
Her only alibi was Leo. She couldn’t remember what happened, but she knew there was no way she would have anything to do with the missing man. Right?
She had no choice but to depend on Leo and play the role of a happy fiancé, even if it’s temporary-very temporary. But when bullets start flying, Freya knew there was more to Leo and his family than meets the eye. Would she survive their fake engagement?

 Review for Set the City on Fire…

Once again Sophia Peony captivates me with her wonderful creations! Her new story ‘Set the City on Fire’ is a story so hot that I had to take a moment (or three) to compose myself. Her characters, Leo and Freya have chemistry that goes beyond the norm. He’s a mobster, domineering and controlling. She is spends most of her time either working or staying at home, completely innocent to the darker world around her. But saving Leo from impending death, is her door into this new world. I liked the slow burn of the story, the character shaping, and (of course) the happy ending. Another great read from Sophia Peony, for the win!

Excerpt:
                                   PROLOGUE
ISLE OF SKYE, SCOTLAND. 1550
     The late-afternoon sun was slipping away
and storm clouds and darkness were rapidly approaching as the happy
eight-year-old girl carrying a straw basket filled with freshly-cut roses ran
towards Delaney Castle.
     Suddenly out of breath, Sarah Delaney stopped, sat down on the soft green grass and looked at her home. Delaney Castle was truly beautiful. Its stone walls and turrets so white they almost shimmered in the rapidly setting sun. It was hard to believe that a magnificent castle perched on top of a hill was actually her home. Hers!  How lucky she was to live there and how blessed she was to have such wonderful parents. Parents who loved her so much they were making a magnificent birthday party for her that very evening. Overcome with happiness, Sarah could not help herself and as she stood up and ran into the castle she started to sing. “The birth day is the loveliest day. The birth day is filled with charm.”
  Sarah’s beautiful, dark-haired mother, Evelyn Delaney, was clad in a breathtaking saffron gown and she was waiting for her daughter as Sarah ran into the castle.
     Evelyn smiled, lifted a rose from Sarah’s
straw basket and inhaled the flower’s scent. “Come along, Sarah. Everyone wants to see the birthday girl.”
     Sarah kissed her mother on the cheek and said, “I am ready, mother.”
     Sarah took her mother’s hand and together they walked into an enormous dining hall which was filled with relatives and friends who began to clap and cheer the moment Sarah entered the room.
     Sarah scanned the room. The crowd was thick. There were so many people, too many people – but she only wanted one of them. Yet she could not find him. It was so frustrating. Where was he? Where
was he?  Suddenly she spotted him – her tall, handsome, blond father, Patrick Delaney, (clad in his finest tartan kilt and a velvet jacket). Sarah rushed into her father’s arms and he laughed and tossed her playfully into the air as Sarah squealed with delight. “Now we eat!”
Patrick yelled. “Now we sing and dance as we let it be known to all that eight years ago, on the first of June, fifteen hundred and forty-two, my daughter, this young beauty named Sarah Delaney, was born in Scotland!”
     The assembled guests cheered and, as if by magic, servants suddenly appeared in the vast dining hall, some carrying trays of food, some holding musical instruments which they began to play.
     Delighted, the guests began to eat and sing and dance to the lively music which was almost drowned out by the sound of approaching thunder.
      Sarah took her parents’ hands and the three of them sang along with their guests; raising their voices as the sounds of distant thunder grew closer and louder.
     Suddenly, thunder exploded overhead, cold, impenetrable sheets of rain dropped from the black sky and long branches of lightning illuminated the castle as soldiers rushed into the dining hall with
swords drawn.
    Sarah Delaney screamed as a soldier cut off her father’s head.
    Evelyn Delaney grabbed her terrified daughter and ran to the large portrait of Patrick Delaney that hung on one of the dining hall’s stone walls.
      Soldiers ignored all cries for mercy and massacred the party guests, savagely, brutally, sparing no one.
     Trembling, Evelyn pushed the portrait and the stone wall moved, revealing a secret passageway.
     Evelyn quickly kissed her daughter. “Hurry now, Sarah. Save yourself.”
     Suddenly, a soldier drove his sword into Evelyn’s chest and Sarah, still clutching the basket of roses rushed down the dark stone passageway.
     “Run, Sarah!”
     The soldier pulled the sword from Evelyn’s chest and then plunged it into her throat.
     The moment Evelyn Delaney fell to the ground, dead, the soldier turned his attention to Sarah and rushed into the stone passageway.
     As Sarah ran, she turned and looked behind her. The soldier was too fast. She was running with all her might but the soldier was getting closer.
     A bright white flash of lightning illuminated the end of the passageway; illuminated freedom.
     Sarah, exhausted, managed to squeeze through the passageway’s narrow opening just as the soldier lunged and tried to grab her.
     The soldier was able to grab Sarah’s left shoe and tear if off her foot but Sarah was suddenly free. The soldier was unable to fit through the passageway’s narrow opening and he screamed and swore and waved the child’s raw leather shoe as Sarah Delaney ran and ran and disappeared into the wet Scottish night.

About the author…

81itGIgU5BL._SY200_.pngI love to write!
I’ve been reading fiction for years and finally decided that the images and scenes floating around in my head needed to make it to paper.

I’m a huge fan of romance, highly optimistic, and wildly faithful to the HEA (happily ever after). I’m inspired by most anything around me. And my biggest obstacle is not having enough time to get it all down on paper (or my computer, as the case may be).

My goal is create a fantasy you will enjoy with characters you could love.

I live in Texas with my attentive, loving, super-model husband, and my perfectly behaved, brilliant children. My produce never wilts, there are no weeds in my flowerbeds, and chocolate is my favorite food group.
And then I wake up.

Love In The Spotlight by Sophia Peony (Review)

51r8GSAF0lL.jpg Connor Knightly

Hollywood’s biggest star, and a product of Hollywood legends.

Connor needed the right actress for his new movie. He didn’t want the hottest or most popular actress, he wanted the perfect one and Judith was the perfect woman for the role. This movie was his baby and Judith was his star. He just needs to remember to keep his hands off of her. He didn’t want another relationship in the spotlight.

Judith Roux

The product of two people who needed to divorce.

Judith was ready to throw her towel in for her Hollywood dreams but not without a last hurrah. She took a chance and it paid off. She, Judith Roux, a relatively unknown actress, daughter of a porn film maker, and stepping stool for A-list celebrities was going to star in a movie with The Connor Knightly. She wasn’t just going to star in the movie with him; she was going to be the star.

Review for ‘Love In The Spotlight’

This novella was such a gem to read! Living in Los Angeles, I love when stories come into my neighborhood and I can fall in love with the city all over again. The Hollywood fame and fortune isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, but Peony tends to her characters with such care and detail that she makes the stars look attainable. Her heroine, Judith, is strong-will and goes after exactly what she wants. The yin to her yang is Connor Knightly, the most handsome man in Hollywood. I loved their chemistry and the determination they both share to find their HEA. It was a wonderful, quick read. I look forward to hearing more about Sophia Peony in the future!

Review of Stolen by Addison Cain

This is my first Addison Cain novel, and lordy, I was not prepared for it by any means! The world she creates in her Omegaverse is gritty, loud, and beautifully dark. I had just come from another romance novel of the same thread, and so this was a great second-run for me to experience. I loved her unique writing voice, and keeping things in such an “alpha” or an “omega” point of view can be difficult, but Cain manages to make each one come alive in their own right. Overall, I was quite impressed with her storylines and character arcs. I’m looking forward to reading more from Addison Cain in the very near future.

GENRE: Historical Romance

BLURB:

When an earl who’s given up on love and has settled on an engagement to a darling of society falls for a Crimean War nurse, he must either forsake his love or embroil them all in scandal.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPTS (Please choose only ONE to use with your post):
Excerpt One:
The earl turned his head. Their gazes locked. For a moment she was privy to his rage and stark pain. Then his lids closed, his fingers spread, and his shoulders lifted with a huge breath.
She moved forward. His eyes, when he opened them, were neither green nor brown nor blue, but an intriguing blend of all three, putting her in mind of the colors of a clear stream. The raw emotion she’d glimpsed was gone. A composed man stood before her. A man lauded for clear-thinking leadership, whose parliamentary speeches were quoted in The Times.
“Miss Thorne?”
“Yes, I’m Victoria Thorne. How do you do, your lordship.”
He gave a short nod. He appeared exhausted. Dark smudges marred the skin below red-rimmed eyes and creases bracketed his wide mouth. Though fatigue radiated from his face, it didn’t detract from his pronounced attractiveness, in part bestowed by a fine, straight nose and strong jaw. Thick auburn hair swept back from a wide forehead.
“My apologies, ma’am. I wouldn’t have chosen such an introduction to Cheriton Court. I deserve to be relegated to barbarian, but I hope you’ll withhold judgment.”
“Perhaps you had good reason, sir.” The little bit she’d overheard made her think it likely.
His jaw bunched. “Yes. Only it’s kept me away from my brother’s side too long.” He turned toward the door. “Please, come with me. I need your help.”
