“The Waves of Love Can Make You Sick”

A Reckless Series Spin-off

A Romantic Comedy

Memphis Love knows three things.

Money

Sex

Women

As long as it has a pond for him to dip his pole into, he’s game, and he doesn’t stick to just one pond for his fishing trips either.

The small, beach town he lives in doesn’t offer much for job opportunities or at least lucrative ones. He relies on his body, the pole, and stage. Oh, and the after hour clients.

Iris, his best after hour customer, takes him on a yearly cruise with her friends. He’s there for one purpose and one purpose only…their boy toy.

Memphis is no fool. A two week, all paid cruise to soak up the sun and sights is a no brainer. Only thing is he didn’t expect a little ray of sunshine on the ship this year. Raylan Moore has the power to rattle everything he once believed.

The doctor is in; he’s willing, able and ready to please. Dr. Love has the cure to your Love Sick (offset in a different font) blues, only this time maybe he’s the one needing the healing.

EXCERPT:

Memphis Love
I lie back in the lounger, finding the perfect snooze zone again while soaking up the rays. Then I hear it. The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Every single inch of my body is on alert. I sit right back up, pulling down my Ray-Bans on the bridge of my nose.

I smile.

I smile like the victor of Titty Mania 2017. Give me the belt, bitches. Hand it right over. She didn’t fall into my lap this time. Nope, it’s so much sweeter because I spot her before she attacks.

Raylan. She’s standing at the bar fifty feet away. Her head is thrown back in laughter. A damn fruity drink is in her hand. Her girls at her side are making her laugh at something. It’s a lingering suspicion, but I know Raylan is never this carefree. The edge of a hot tub is feet away. It’s not her clumsiness I’m studying, but what she’s wearing.

Or should I say what she’s not wearing? That scrappy piece is a poor excuse for a damn top. I know what’s under it or at least half of it. She has one of those fancy, see through skirts tied around her lower half. The knot is settled nicely on her hip.

It would take one nip of my teeth to undo it. Fuck, I wouldn’t have to take her bikini bottoms off to taste her. I bet she’s as sweet as those damn drinks she loves.

“Daddy, antennae.”

I peer over to the voice ready to glare at the bastard interrupting my daydream, hot shower research supplying spank bank material. But it’s a little boy pointing right at me.

“That man has Wi-Fi.”

I squint my eyes trying to put together what the hell is going. He begins racing over to me chanting Wi-Fi.

I peer down to see if the little bandit is planning to nab any of my personal items. Kids these damn days are too smart for their good. It’s then I see the Wi-Fi. Spandex and a raging cock are not the right combination and a clear signal for Wi-Fi according to young children. The size of my engorged dick could guide astronauts home from Jupiter.

What has this clumsy girl done to me? I’m a global threat at this point. Draining my remaining drink, I find the perfect excuse to stride right over to the bar where the group of girls are still chatting it up. Hell, Raylan doesn’t notice all the men checking her out. Her friend, Brenna, has at least double Ds and I’d bet my left nut they’re fake. She’s the type the majority of men magnetize to, but not with Raylan next to her. Josi, I’m pretty sure that was her name, is also a knockout with fake assets and plump injected lips. But it’s none of that which attracts me.

The fuck? I don’t remember any female names, and here I’m studying Raylan and her friends like a first rate stalker. I saddle up to the bar, blocking the group of dickheads drinking in Raylan. My size and width get the job done.

“Another, hun?” the busty bartender asks.

I keep up the smolder showdown giving it to her smooth. “Please, darlin’.”

That does the trick. I hear one of the girls squeal. I know it’s not Raylan but not sure which one it is.

“Raylan.” I hear a loud skin slap, but I don’t look, pretending to eye down the bartender. “It’s him.”

Another voice joins. “It is Raylan. Holy shit, he’s on the cruise.”

Hook, line, and sinker.

“Who?” Raylan asks. Hell, her voice erects the Eiffel Tower in a matter of seconds.

“I’d say nipple gate 2017, but it was more of Tit Show Gate 2017 live and in action.”

There’s an audible gasp. I can feel her gaze soaking up the front view leaning on the bar. My elbow is propped on the smooth wood and my face is in the direction of the back shelf with my legs crossed at the ankles. Most men would flex their muscles right now, putting them in the douche category permanently. I remain calm, playing to ignore the conversation.

I’m betting today they’ve had a few to drink since their voices are not a whisper when they think they are.

“You were right about his wiener. It was not your imagination.”

I stifle laughter at that one.

“Don’t say wiener; we aren’t ten years old anymore.”

“I told you it was huge.”

And there’s my cue. I stand slowly, paying attention to each move of my body, grab my drink from the bar, and make eye contact. They react as suspected, ducking their heads and blushing like fools.

The Bull Riding Witch

By Jamie Marchant

Daulphina’s father, the king of Asteria, has always wanted a male heir. He isn’t nice enough to be a good king.

But apparently, the gods don’t like being challenged because she’s flung across the void and into the dumpy old trailer and chiselled body of Joshua Killenyen, a rodeo bull rider from Alabama. With nothing to eat but Frosted Flakes and no knowledge how she got there, she better find a way home before she gets her head stomped in by the bulls she must ride. Or her brother will take the throne and reduce her people to slavery. Remember, he isn’t nice.

Excerpt

I woke with my head pounding and my tongue coated with the fur balls of ten thousand cats. I nearly gagged at the stench that filled the air, a scent that combined the reek of the inside of a knight’s armor after jousting with the odor of rotting flesh.

Confused, I examined my surroundings. Hanging on the wall facing me was a portrait of a huge bull with its head down and its heels kicked high into the air. Incredibly, a man, holding onto a rope with only one hand, sat on the bull’s back. Why would anyone ride a bull? Bulls were dangerous and impossible to control.

Piled high on the bedside table were plates covered with the remains of several meals, bowls with a few dregs of sour milk, and empty bottles. The sheet I laid on was stained with various substances I didn’t want to identify. Where was I? This was certainly no place worthy of me, the crown princess. Maybe I had somehow ended in the servants’ quarters, although I couldn’t imagine how.

I tried to sit up, and my head felt as if it were going to split in two. I groaned, and the sound was deep and masculine. What the . . .? I looked down at my arms. They were muscular and covered with hair. I grabbed my naked chest. My breasts were entirely flat, and my chest was covered with thick, coarse hair. When I rubbed my hand across my face, I felt thick stubble. I looked down at the short clothes, which were the only thing I was wearing; there was a bulge that just shouldn’t have been there. I lifted the waistband and peeked. Dear gods, how had I gotten one of those? I poked it with my finger, and it twitched. I snapped the waistband closed and jumped away, but I couldn’t get away from the body I was wearing.

Jamie began writing stories about the man from Mars when she was six, and she never remembers wanting to be anything other than a writer. Everyone told her she needed a back up plan, so she pursued a Ph.D. in American literature, which she received in 1998. She started teaching writing and literature at Auburn University. One day in the midst of writing a piece of literary criticism, she realized she’d put her true passion on the backburner and neglected her muse. The literary article went into the trash, and she began the book that was to become her first novel. She writes about the fantastic . . . and the tortured soul. Her poor characters have hard lives. She still teaches writing and literature at Auburn University. She is the mother of a grown son.

Excerpt

‘You okay?’ Lou snapped her fingers in front of my face.

Startled, I sat up sharply, almost knocking the cold beer she offered out of her hand.

‘Beer? At this time?’

‘It’s refreshing and we’re on holiday, Sam.’ She resumed her position on the sun lounger. ‘Where were you just then? You were miles away.’

‘Oh, you know, being here is bringing back all kinds of memories.’

‘You’ve never really told me about your work here.’

‘All over with by the time I met you, wasn’t it?’

Lou and I had first met at a local Guildford playgroup when the kids were preschoolers. We were as bored as each other with the inane drudgery of being at home alone with children. I adored my girls—I wouldn’t change a thing about them or about staying home with them—but it certainly wasn’t the most intellectually stimulating choice to make, and, of course, it meant sacrificing my career. In the nineties, a man like Andy wouldn’t have dreamt of giving up his important city job—I didn’t even know exactly what he did. Was it terrible of me not to care?

‘How long were you and Andy together before you had Tess?’ Lou asked.

‘About a year,’ I told her, without actually saying Tess was an accident. She could work it out. You didn’t usually meet someone at twenty-one and fall pregnant within three months on purpose—unless you were from Grimsby. She did the maths quickly and cut her eyes to me.

‘All worked out okay, though, hasn’t it?’ she said with a bright smile. Lou didn’t do misery and heartbreak. She certainly wasn’t the kind of friend I’d go to if I needed a shoulder to cry on.

‘Terrific,’ I said numbly, swigging my beer.

‘Thought we might head into Palma tonight. Try the more sophisticated bars where the locals hang out rather than risk more of the sleaze from last night. What do you think?’

My stomach lurched at the thought and I spluttered on my beer. The last time I’d been to Palma was with him.

‘Jesus, steady, Sam. We don’t have to. Just a thought.’ She wiped a splattering of beer from her arm.

‘I’d love to. Let’s do that.’ It’s not as if I’d run into him, is it? Probably doesn’t even live round here anymore.

‘Righto, I’ll order a taxi for about nine, shall I?’

That’s about my normal bedtime, I thought dimly. I gave her a cold hard stare. ‘Lou, for God’s sake. We’re not eighteen. Can’t we make it seven?’

She rolled her eyes. ‘All right, Cinders. Back before midnight, too, I guess?’

‘Not if I meet my Prince Charming,’ I retorted.

She let out a hearty laugh.

I wasn’t joking.

Excerpt

“Technically, I don’t think you’re supposed to see the bride before the wedding.”

“I think that’s about the dress, and you are still delightfully undressed.” His voice held a growl as he shut the door tight and prowled towards her.

Standing there in Lauren’s tiny skirt, the stockings and garter belt, and the corset — she had to admit the heat in his gaze steadied the lingering nerves in her stomach. Making all of that energy simmer into something much more pleasant, which settled much lower. “I still think it’s supposedly bad luck.”

“Hmm…” James made a noise low in his throat as he pulled her into a kiss, one hand at the back of her head, the other pressing her waist against him. The first sweep of his tongue against hers made her remember just how little air she had with the corset tightened, and she finally understand how women used to swoon so easily. He could have knocked her over with a feather if he had tried.

Instead, he held her against him. The firm, lean muscle of his chest, his strong arm wrapped around her back so that she was exactly where he wanted her. Finally, James nipped her bottom lip and lifted his head.

“I have been dreaming about doing that since we got separated this morning.”

“I—” Thalia had to clear her throat, and her head, before she could speak. “I’m glad you did that in here, and not during the wedding.”

His quiet laugh sent butterflies swirling in her stomach, which were only amplified by the thumb he dragged across her lip. “Worried about scandalizing the guests?”

Catching his hand, Thalia groaned. “Mostly worried about embarrassing your parents.”

“They’d survive.”

“That is not comforting.” She pouted, and he smiled at her. A warmer, more comfortable version of the first smile he’d ever given her. The one that had made her imagine him as some male model on a yacht, but Marcus’ living room seemed blissfully far away in this perfect moment.

“Are you really still nervous about today? It’s a rather small guest list.”

“One hundred and twenty eight people is small?” Thalia laughed. “I have no idea what I’m doing.”

“You’ve met almost everyone here, baby. Except for some obscure relatives of mine that will only be wondering how I nabbed a beautiful, kind, American yoga instructor for a wife.” His wicked grin actually made her smile, but despite the blush she still shook her head.

“Like they’d doubt you’re capable of that.”

“Oh, they’ll be astonished. They think I never leave the office.” He grinned and leaned close enough to have his voice a sinful growl against the shell of her ear. “They think I’m positively boring.”

“Boring?” The word made a smile tug at her lips as he leaned back, smiling down at her again. James was anything but boring. He was her hero, her Master, her partner, her lover. He was the other half of her life, the weight on the other end of the scales that kept her balanced even when things felt out of control — and just like when they played, when he said he knew she was capable of something… she always was. “You are anything but boring, and I’ll be okay, Master. I promise.”

“I know, pet. You’re the bravest woman I’ve ever met.” With that, he kissed her again. Warm, soft, sweet. His lips pressed against hers in an unspoken vow that made her stomach do little somersaults as she clutched at his crisp white shirt. When he lifted his mouth his eyes were that dark, bottle glass green that telegraphed his arousal better than anything. Well, better than anything except for the growing erection against her stomach. “How was that?”

“What?” she asked, confused.

“For the wedding, is it alright if I kiss you like that?” The wicked tilt to his lips had her laughing.

“That will be bloody perfect.”

With a loud laugh he picked her up at the waist and set her on the covered table behind her. “What have I told you about using British slang?”

“I think I’ve lived here long enough to get to use it.”

“Is that right?” he asked, an edge of humor creeping into his tone.

“Quite right,” Thalia replied in her best attempt at a British accent, and James groaned.

“Keep that up and I’ll spank you before I let you see the surprise I brought you.”

“Promise?” Just as her smile spread across her mouth, she saw his eyes flash with lust and that heady aura of dominance descended over him. An instant later she was flipped to her stomach on the table, Lauren’s skirt pushed up her back, and the first swat of his hand landed on her ass.

Excerpt:

“Are you sure Hallstein was your mate in another life?” His eyes held hers as he spun her so that they were facing each other. “Do you have memories of your time with him?” He shook his head, spoke through clenched teeth and worked hard to keep rage from taking over as he caught glimpses of what she had endured. “He did things to you, Erica. Terrible things. Things that make no sense given you were Maeva…his mate.”

She leaned back, clenched her jaw and averted her eyes. “Yes, he was my mate. I’m sure of it.”

“Then why can’t you look at me when you say that?” He tilted her chin until she had no choice but to meet his eyes. “What aren’t you telling me? What’s the missing piece?” He frowned. “Because something’s not adding up.”

“It doesn’t…you just…” She frowned as well. “You need to let this go. You need to let me go. It’s the only way this is going to work. It’s the only hope we have.”

“And where am I supposed to let you go to?” He glanced around to remind her where they were before his eyes returned to hers. “Because it’s out of my control, yes?”

“You know what I mean.”

“Do I?” He stepped a bit closer and never removed his fingers from her chin. “Because as far as I can tell you want me to believe you desire Hallstein when that’s the furthest thing from the truth. I think you’re trying to push me away so that you can somehow save everyone all on your own.”

Because he was remembering his last life, he remembered what Maeva had looked like. While they shared the same tall, lithe build with curves in all the right places, he found Erica more stunning in this life. Her eyes were varying shades of striking green that seemed to shift with her mood, and her warm skin tone was luminous. He wanted to feel her soft skin against him. Touch every last inch of her.

She went very still as their eyes held. Or so one would think if they couldn’t detect the slight tremor that went through her. Shivers that only translated to another dragon. He also noticed that she had gone from momentarily vulnerable to completely closed off despite her physical reaction.

“You’re good at that,” he murmured, shifting even closer to see if he could bring out that tremor even more. “Trying to be strong for everyone else all the time. How long have you played that part?” While he should have remained compassionate and thankful, his inner dragon was flaring. The jealousy that reared whenever he thought about her in the enemy’s arms. “How long have you been playing the part of a woman trying to convince Hallstein that you’re his? How long have you been—”

“No,” she cut him off, yanked her chin away and narrowed her eyes. “What I’ve done to help our people is not because—”

“Because you’re meant to be together?” he cut her off just as readily, as he turned things around on her. “Because you’re not, are you?” He shook his head and narrowed his eyes as well. “You’re not supposed to be with him.” His voice dropped to a whisper as the truth hovered just out of reach. Like a memory he was right on the verge of remembering. “You never were, but something happened…”

Something he needed to understand, so he thought fast. If one thing had been proven true with his kin and their mates it was that intimacy seemed to speed up their mental connections. So why not get things moving in that direction?

It seemed Erica followed his line of thought because a moment later she started to move away but he caught her. With an arm around her lower back, he yanked her against him, cupped the back of her neck and kissed her.

The moment he did, everything changed.

Moondance by Linda K. Hopkins (Review)

Moondance Cover.jpegMoondance

by Linda K. Hopkins

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Paranormal Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Are some obstacles too difficult for love to overcome?

For years, Melissa Hewitt has dreamed of being hunted by a panther, a huge, black creature that pursues her relentlessly. But panthers do not exist in real life – not in Canada, anyway. And it is in the Canadian Rockies that Melissa escapes the stresses of her work – a job that come with a handsome but unfriendly boss who exudes both danger and allure. There is something about Leander Garrett, however, that draws Melissa, making him almost impossible to ignore; that, and the fact that once they had been friends.

As winter turns into spring, Leander’s chilly demeanor begins to thaw, but danger prowls through the mountains, and Lee has a secret that lurks beneath his elegant clothes and rippling physique. Something that compels him to reject what he desires the most.

Can he learn to see the good in himself and finally allow his heart to love, and be loved in return?

A captivating paranormal romance, Moondance will keep you enthralled to the very last page.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
Darkness hung over the ground like a pall as Melissa stumbled blindly through the forest, lurching between shadowy trunks and swerving around bushes that seemed to materialize out of nowhere. Barbed branches clawed her face and arms, leaving angry welts in their wake. Protruding roots, intent on hindering her escape, sent her to her knees, leaving them scratched and bleeding. She gasped for breath as the blood pounded furiously in her ears while her chest burned with each breath. Sweat dripped down her forehead, covering her brow. Fear had slickened her palms, and her legs trembled as she careened between the trees. Behind her, her pursuer flew with seeming effortlessness over the ground, its enormous paws making no sound as it closed the gap between them. From the corner of her eye she saw the huge cat drawing alongside her, its bright green eyes shining eerily in the dark. Her foot caught the rough end of a stump, and she flung out her hands as she tumbled to the ground. The panther leaped toward her as her screams tore through the air.
Melissa jolted upright in her bed, her eyes wide as she searched her room in terror for the beast. Rigid fingers gripped the sheet, straining the fabric until it was close to ripping. Her heart hammered in her chest, the memory of reaching claws and hot breath on her neck still too close to dismiss. She loosened her hold on the sheet one aching finger at a time until it fell from her grip.
Review for Moondance
I was blown away by how much depth and complexity Hopkins’ characters portrayed. In some instances, the heroine Melissa was so enjoyable I found myself surprised by how easy it was to relate to her antics, her personality, and her struggles. She’s a hard working woman, with a lot of pressure coming from her icy-personality boss Leander, or Lee for short. I would get frustrated with her when he would go from hot to cold in half a second. Why was he like this? What was going on?
Lee and Melissa have had a past, prior to the reader’s introduction of them. It’s a relationship that has levels that go far beyond what many romance novels portray. I loved the innuendo of the “beast within” ideas Hopkins kept dropping throughout the story. She kept her humor light and the action fast paced. Lee’s secret is revealed in a big way, and one that keeps the reader wondering if what he shows Melissa is enough to keep her around…
All in all, I was happy that Hopkins chose to leave certain aspects of the storyline in tact. She took a leap of faith with her decisions and the outcome was simply satisfying. I hadn’t read a shapeshifter book in a long time like this, and for that, I am grateful for Hopkins’ novel Moondance.
Review for Home Field
Home Field was an absolute delight to read! I enjoyed this book so much and I knew it would be a hit with Laurie Winter talents and charms. The characters were caring and believable and the romance was so sweet. Home Field tells the story of a young war widow with a son. She has been struggling with moving forward in life and loving once more. Our hero, a handsome professional football player, has loved her from the beginning. Through the pain, the happiness, and growth, I kept turning the page in the hopes of that HEA. Home Field is a sure win, and one that I will always cherish on my digital bookshelf to read again, and again.
Review:
Soul Reaping held my attention even at the first sentence. Our heroine awakes suddenly in a new place, in a new time, in a new world even. Kleio’s soul has been trapped for thousands of years, and only released recently into a new body. She spends the new few years adjusting to the world as we know it, but keeps the memories of her former life. All of the memories. In Kleio’s world, she was married to an angel named Calliel. Calliel had come to her village with several other angels and offered to help them learn and grow as a culture. It was there that the two fell in love, and eventually had a child. This child, however, was born a nephilim, and causes them both to make decisions based on what they feel is right and just. You may need to dust off your old theology books from college for some of the words and history used in ‘Soul Reaping’, but it is so, so worth it.
I loved this story, absolutely treasured the characters, and the struggle that both the hero and heroine faced was honest, raw, and real. Kleio’s fight for her husband, and the fight for humanity, leaves the reader with quite a rollercoaster of a read. Anne Hope spins a tale that captivates and enthralls her reader. I loved that even though this story not only handled romance and adventure well, but that it handled theology at just the same level. The accuracy of angel-lore, proved to me that Hope had done her homework. And for that, I am grateful that she has shared such an awe-inspiring novel like Soul Reaping. I look forward to her stories for many more years to come.
