Blame It On Fate

Lexi Post, C.A. Sazrek, Mia London, Heather Miles, Jilian Stone, J.M. Walker

How great is the price of Fate?

Six stories about love, passion, and the role Fate plays in the lives of lovers. Six couples must decide whether to accept Fate or fight against it.
Have your soul touched and your heart set afire. You won’t be able to put this anthology down.

Highland Oath (Highland Treasure Book 1) by C.A. Szarek: Saving a life in the 17th century is hard enough for a time-traveling doctor, until Fate hands her heart to a Highlander.

Claiming Emerson by Heather Miles: My double life was a shell game I’d mastered long ago, a chosen fate. The art of illusion wasn’t just something I’d become proficient at, I lived it.

On A Whim by JM Walker: B. Vesper is hiding. As a bestselling BDSM indie author, he knows all too well the dangers of letting people get close. But when his new cover designer Kiki Smith starts breaking down his walls and letting him in her life, will his secret rebuild those barriers?

A Twist On Fate by Jillian Stone: “They say that you don’t meet people by accident, that you cross paths with strangers for a reason. But then memes about fate are for morons, right? Thing is—after what just happened—I’m not so sure anymore.” —Skylar Fenstermaker

Temptations of Christmas Future (A Christmas Carol Book 3) by Lexi Post: When Joy, the Spirit of Christmas Future, is paired with a problem Spirit Guide, her positive outlook is tested beyond its limits. Will she persevere, or will the Guide, a young widow and her own outlook be the casualties of her weakness?

Undeniable Fate (Undeniable Series Book 1) by Mia London: Shocking is putting it mildly. When the stranger she’d met only twelve hours earlier suddenly walks into her hotel room, Lily can think of only one thing.

Review of Undeniable Fate by Mia London:

Mia London’s charming story captivated me quickly, all until the end. Lily and Brandon are a fun, flirty, and enjoyable couple to read. Their story is full of charming humor and sensuality, mixed in with some highly captivating sex. I enjoyed reading this novella and I look forward to London’s next endeavors!

Duets & Dominance by Anya Summers

Elizabeth “Lizzie” von Klepper has a problem of epic proportions—she’s the oldest virgin in the world. Invited to perform on Pleasure Island with her best friend Solomon, she devises a plan to seduce him, and rid herself of that infernal status. After all, they shared a mind-blowing kiss a year ago and that has to count for something, right?

Solomon Ventura adores Lizzie. She’s been his best friend since their humble beginnings at Julliard, but deep down he’s yearned for her. For more. And ever since he tasted her, a stolen kiss he hasn’t been able to forget, he cannot seem to stop his mind from conjuring up myriad fantasies with Lizzie in the starring role. But he’s not the man for her. She’s light where he is dark, and his brand of love would shatter the only woman he’s ever cared about.

Will the best friends move their relationship out of the friendzone? Or will a week spent on pleasure island destroy them both?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
Seven years of her life, down the toilet. Seven years of waiting for Edward to marry her. Seven years of patiently waiting for him to make an honest woman out of her. God, how he and the model he’d been banging must have laughed over her stupidity.
It was absurd, really, how gullible she’d been in their relationship. Most men didn’t want to wait to have a physical relationship, especially not with their intended bride.
Pretty stupid of her, in retrospect.
Lizzie rolled her eyes at herself and her predicament. Deep down, she had known that indisputable fact but she’d ignored the truth because she hadn’t loved Edward. Hell, she hadn’t been certain she even liked him. And he had obviously never cared for her, but had been as stuck as she in a prison of expectation.
She’d toed the line her parents had expected her to walk without overstepping the boundaries they erected. Because of that, she had lived a relatively sheltered life in pursuit of her career as a concert flutist. Even during her time at Julliard, she had been buttoned up with responsibilities and the terrible desire to please her parents, hoping that if she did as they asked of her, they would finally show a measure of warmth towards her.
So when her parents had introduced her to Edward Cunningham III, one of their friend’s sons, it had been the most natural extension in the world to accept his proposal.
Sheltered, secluded, and undeniably obtuse when it came to matters of the heart, Lizzie had caved to their unspoken demands. It was funny now, for when she looked back at how Edward had proposed, it had obviously been another business merger and nothing more.
Lovesick Gods by Amanda Meuwissen (Review)
Lovesick Gods
Lovesick Series
Part One
Amanda Meuwissen
Genre: – Superhero/Gay Romance
Date of Publication: October 2, 2017
ISBN: 1-943619-33-6
ASIN:
Number of pages: 312
Word Count: 106,903
Cover Artist: Veronika Dolnikova
Tagline: Heroes aren’t meant to act like their villains—or fall in love with them.
Book Description:
The elements touch everyone on Earth—Fire, Water, even Light—but every so often someone becomes more attuned to their elemental leaning and develops true power. When an evil Elemental known as Thanatos arrived in Olympus City, it saw the rise of its first hero—Zeus. But the death toll caused by defeating Thanatos changed Zeus, who by day is young detective Danny Grant.
It’s been six months since Thanatos terrorized the city at the start of Lovesick Gods. Danny should be used to his duty behind the mask, but the recent past haunts him. His girlfriend left him, he snaps at the barest provocation, his life feels empty—he needs an outlet, any outlet to pull him out of his depression.
Enter notorious thief Malcolm Cho, the Ice Elemental Prometheus. There was a time when Danny welcomed a fight with Cho, filled with colorful banter and casual flirtations that were a relief compared to Thanatos. Even as a criminal, Cho had recognized the threat Thanatos posed and promised to help Danny stop him, but the day Danny needed Cho, he never showed. Cho was the reason so many people died that day—including Danny’s mother.
Danny decides to teach the man a lesson and fan the fire of their attraction into something more. At worst, he’ll get some no-strings-attached sex out of the deal and finally blow off steam; at best, he’ll get Cho to fall in love with him and then break his heart to spite him. Danny doesn’t expect to fall for Cho in the process, and he certainly can’t predict the much darker threat on the horizon.
Excerpt:
The long game, Danny thought as he accepted the hand Cho held out to help him from the sofa.
Cho couldn’t have any fun with a blubbering mess, so of course he’d want to cheer Danny up. It didn’t mean anything. It just felt nice that Cho didn’t pry the way the others did. He’d never look down on Danny. He was a liar, a criminal, a scoundrel—he was the reason Danny had been forced into that
position with Thanatos to begin with—but while the rest of his life felt like an open wound, somehow Cho was a balm.
Danny made a show of changing out of Cho’s clothes and into his Zeus costume right there in
the living room. Leaving the sleep pants and T-shirt folded on the sofa, he started to put on his boots at the door.
“Interesting choice of work clothes.” Cho crossed his arms with an amused eyebrow raise.
“I’ll change when I get to the precinct. And next time I’ll call. Or text. Promise. Thanks
for breakfast.” Danny made to walk toward Cho off the rug, then gave an abortive gesture like oops, stuck now with my boots on.
Cho rolled his eyes, but he still moved closer to accept the kiss Danny pulled him into. And
let linger. And linger… Maybe a little longer than necessary.
“Have a nice day at work, dear,” Cho said, sickly sweet in his familiar drawl.
Danny found himself
smiling—and meaning it.
Cho was a bad man. He was. He…he was. But he made things lighter. And easier. And even though Danny knew that soon he’d have to end this or risk getting in too deep, for now
he could enjoy the lie for just a little longer.
Review for ‘Lovesick Gods’
I’m an absolute sucker for anything Greek mythology, and when Lovesick Gods by Amanda Meuwissen fell into my radar I was excited beyond words to read it! She has a twist on the old gods, and their relationships. I adored Danny and Cho’s push and pull relationship. Danny is bruised and battered, and Cho makes his life much more… should I say interesting? It wouldn’t be enough of a description for what their relationship blossoms into (warning: sexy times ensue), but it will leave you flipping to the next page over and over. Lovesick Gods has been one of my favorite reads in a very long time. I am definitely looking forward to Meuwissen’s next novels!
Captured Memories by Katherine McIntyre (Review)
Captured Memories
by Katherine McIntyre
(Cupid’s Café #3)
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35437000-captured-memories
An invitation to Cupid’s Café will change your life.
After the incident that caused Liv Morozov to drop out of college, years later she’s still trying to pick up the pieces of her life. She’s managed to carve out a career for herself as a photographer, but when it comes to guys? Her issues send them running for the hills, every damn time.
Zane Parata has declared himself off-limits for relationships. Between trying to maintain sobriety and the long hours he works as a chef, no one wants to deal with his brand of damage, and he wouldn’t want to burden them in the first place.
When Liv shows up at Cupid’s Café, she never expected to find Zane, her brother’s former best friend who had vanished one day and never returned. The sparks that surged when they were both teens rekindle stronger than ever, and all too fast, Liv and Zane entangle in each other’s lives, breaking their own rules. Except with both struggling with the demons from their past, the love that’s begun to grow is one lapse away from shattering the two of them beyond repair.
Excerpt:
The date started as bland and was speeding right along to abysmal.
Liv sucked on her straw, taking in an extra hefty helping of her black-and-white milkshake, as if the creamy goodness could block out the absolute drivel coming out of this guy’s mouth. He hadn’t seemed like this much of a twat online, but hey, dating profiles lie. The overhead lights of the Denny’s blared down on her, and the rattle and chill of air conditioning blasting through this place made her skin prickle.
“So you take photographs, right?” Kyle asked, his smarmy grin the sort kind she itched to punch off his face, and the Drakkar Noir he’d slathered on making her stomach churn. “What’s your real job?”
Liv swigged so much milkshake it went straight to her head, but even brain freeze melted in the fury his question inspired. So far he checked off every item on her ‘Shit that Makes Liv Morozov Rage’ list. Acting like her career wasn’t a legitimate profession tended to top that, along with the territorial way he leaned forward, his hand inching across the laminate table as the minutes wore on.
“Professional Emasculator. I’ve been told that’s why I’ve got such a problem keeping a man,” she drawled, batting her eyelashes innocently while the venom poured from her mouth. This had been a bad idea from the start, spurred on by the promise she made to Tessa to give the dating pool a fair try again. Common sense-wise, making connections she might be able to use for her quite-real job as a photographer didn’t hurt, and she figured she could slice through any assholes who came her way.
Looked like right off the bat they lined up for the slaughter.
Review of ‘Captured Memories’
Katherine McIntyre as brought to her series an immense and detailed storyline, but raw and emotional. I was so impressed by the way she handled a broken hero and his journey through the waters of love once more. I absolutely love the idea of a rekindled romance, and the one between Liv and Zane brings the heat and sets up the story to be both bold and witty. Their tension is palpable, and their past-demons are strong. But together, they make one hell of a power couple. A very good read, that I was so happy came across my Kindle!
AuthorPhoto.jpgAbout the Author
Lynn Turner inherited her writing gene from her mother, who created fantastic tales about witches, invisible worlds and talking animals, and read them to her children at night. Lynn isn’t as great with the voices as her mother, but Rome wasn’t built in a day.
She discovered romance far too young, when a mission to find a young adult fantasy title led her to historical romance. She spent hours skimming those sumptuous pages, drinking in the vivid descriptions of settings and clothes, feisty heroines and looming lords, and poetic language. (She may or may not have enjoyed the PG-13 bits too, tucking a new title beneath her pillow at night).
She enjoys character-driven narratives most, and anything that transports her someplace else. Passionate about food and travel, she features healthy doses of both in the stories she crafts. Above all, she is dedicated to writing inclusive stories that explore what it means to be imperfectly human.
When she isn’t writing, she’s traveling, dreaming of traveling, or watching old Samantha Brown travelogue videos and wishing she had her job. She and her husband share their home in California with their two extraordinary children, and hope to add a floppy kitty to the family very soon.
An Excerpt:
All the emotions from that night washed over him and the onslaught churned his stomach. “It was the same for me. But at the same time, I wanted to get far the hell away from you.” He watched her face for any sign of hurt, but to his relief, she just nodded.
“I know.” She frowned. “It was so strange. Almost made me sick.”
He drew in a sharp breath, noticing her stiffen in response.
“What?” she asked.
“That’s exactly how it was for me. It’s how I’m feeling right now.”
She nodded again. “We were both a little off. But your pitch was one of the more memorable ones I’ve had.”
“Don’t remind me. I don’t think I’ve ever botched it like that before.”
“Excuse me?” She smacked his chest. “Maybe I should rescind that offer.”
He chuckled. He knew she was wide open, and he wanted her to trust him. It was his turn to be exposed. He tapped his leg. “This is the best one I’ve had so far, except I can’t deep sea dive with it.”
She reached for his hand. “How many do you have?”
“Just one. But I’m waiting for the military to finish developing those bionic legs so I can lift cars with my foot.”
Her slim fingers traced his bigger ones. “You don’t have to do that, you know. Self-deprecate. You’ve already seen me naked.”
His eyes raked over her, his pulse jumping at her words. “You have no idea how much I’d like to see that again,” he said, sensing her shiver. “But first I want you to see me too. The real me.” He looked down at their hands. “Only if you’re comfortable.”
“I want to see. I just didn’t know how to ask. Or if I should ask.” She smiled. “I didn’t want to offend you.”
“You haven’t asked me to spank you with it, so this is already an improvement from my last date.”
Emanuela gasped. “No…”
He laughed at her horrified expression. “’Fraid so.” He gently removed her legs from his lap and stood in front of her. “And that was an improvement from the date before that.”
“Oh my God.” She snickered. “That’s awful.”
“Well, some kinky stuff is fun.”
“Ugh.” She narrowed her eyes. “Just drop your pants already!”
He grinned and turned away to do just that, bending to tug them off before coming back to sit beside her. Without further ceremony, he pushed on the front of the leg and a tiny motor whirred. “It’s vacuum sealed,” he said. “The button is hidden beneath this sleeve.”
He pulled down the flesh-colored skin covering his knee and the prosthetic leg. Then, he removed the prosthesis and propped it against the end table, glancing at Emanuela.
“What’s that?” she asked.
“It’s a sock. Just makes it more comfortable. Tighter fit.”
“How does it feel to take it off? Is it like taking your shoes off at the end of the day?”
“Wow.” He smiled wide. “That’s not half bad… It’s more like taking off a snug pair of jeans. Just by the way it feels.”
She nodded and he removed the sock, then peeled off the liner to leave his stump bare.
He watched her a moment, letting her take it in. Her eyes widened. Much of his leg was intact, halfway to his shin. It was smooth and conical, with a long pink scar at the tip of the stump.
“Some assembly required,” he said.
She made a sound that was half-gasp, half-laugh. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. I was shocked the first time I saw it too.”
Her lips parted and closed again, darkness clouding her eyes. Finn could read everything in her face, and he silently agreed with the conflict he saw there. Part of him wanted to share the details about what happened, but another part of him wanted to preserve a moment that was new and exciting and full of promise. Another time. If she gives me a chance.
Grinders Corner
by Ferris H. Craig & Charlene Keel
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE:   Romantic Comedy

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Grinders Corner explores the world of taxi dance halls in the 1960s in all its raw hilarity.  Saucy, sassy and sexy, but not the least bit erotic, it follows the adventures of three young women trying to survive in the glitter palaces of Los Angeles.
Like lambs led to the slaughter, Uptown, a newly divorced English major with panic anxiety disorder and no job skills, Voluptua, an out of work actress, and Mouse, a former child star trying to make a comeback all struggle to make enough tickets to pay the bills. Things get complicated when Uptown falls in love with a customer who happens to be a priest.
In Grinders Corner it was a simpler time, long before gentlemen’s clubs and pole dancers, and it happened in a place where shy, lonely men could talk to women, even dance with them, with no fear of rejection—for about fifteen cents a minute.
EXCERPT:
Downtown Los Angeles
Romanceland, 1969
The jukebox was playing Close To You.  The lights were low and romantic, the red candles on the intimate little tables for two flickered seductively, and the many-faceted, mirrored chandelier reflected tiny droplets of shivering, shimmering light onto the dance floor.  His strong arms were about me, and he was lightly kissing my ear.  Then he spoke in a throaty whisper.
“Hey, baby, you wanna make a quick twentyfive bucks?  Let’s go to a motel.”
Oh God, I thought, as I looked at the clock.  One more hour to go.  I’m going to have to put up with this clown for sixty more minutes unless he runs out of money.  Maybe I can get him to sit down and have a Coke.  Then I won’t have to endure this tortuous ritual known as dancing.  If we get a Coke, I’ll have to make conversation with him and that might be worse than dancing.
The only good thing about dancing is that I don’t have to talk to him.  I only have to hear about the motel.
He was staring at me as if waiting for a reply, so I asked, “What did you say?”
Okay, that isn’t particularly original but it used up a couple of seconds.  Then he had to repeat it all.  That took a few more minutes.
I started to think maybe I could make it to the two o’clock finishing line, but I was wrong.  He wasn’t slobbering on my ear anymore.  Now it was my bare shoulder.
“Hey, I’m kind of thirsty,” I said.  “Why don’t we sit down and have a Coke?”
“Baby, I don’t want a Coke.”
“Oh, hell,” I said as I deftly stepped out of his reach.  “Let’s go to the desk so you can check out.”
He retorted with, “How about fifty bucks?  I’ll buy you a steak besides.”
I smiled, thinking how delicious that can of beans at home was going to taste.  “I’m sorry.  I’m not in that line of business.”
“Whaddya wanna do—get married?” he yelled.
